House Mokoena is a single-family home that was designed according to the “barnyard aesthetic” proposed by the estate’s Aesthetics Committee. Upon entering the building, one crosses a water body with a water feature into the open-plan living area connected to the dining and kitchen. On the first floor, the main shed hosts three bedrooms and a study.

01. The main materials to be used are corrugated sheeting, facebrick, composite timber and polycarbonate sheeting. Adjacent to the entertainment bar, the pool reflects onto the ceiling of the covered patio in front of the living area which has expansive sliding doors that create a strong connectivity between the interior and exterior.
02. With the braai area outside, an entertainment bar connects to the kitchen to create a dialog between the masculine and feminine activities occurring externally and internally respectively.
03. The wall textures give depth and complexity through the gradual but strong contrast between the various materials.
04. The master bedroom is bathed by morning sunlight through the recessed balcony and the indirect light through the polycarbonate wall. The space is generous, allowing for a small lounging area. It overlooks the main entrance, enabling passive surveillance over the street.
